Profess- Placing Jesus on Your Ballot: How Faith Informs Politics

Our Speaker

alfonse.png

This month we are excited to welcome Fr. Alfonse Nazarro to Prince of Peace to discuss “Putting Jesus on Your Ballot." Have you ever heard someone tell you that your faith should not influence the way you vote? Can we really separate being an American citizen from being a disciple of Christ? What should we as Catholics profess on a host of moral and political issues? Neither Jesus nor the Church is partisan, but do Catholics have a roadmap to navigate the many difficult sociopolitical issues we face today? Come join the discussion on these questions and more!

After graduating from Rochester Institute of Technology with both a BS and MS in Engineering, Fr. Alfonse Nazzaro worked as a Quality Engineer for Eastman Kodak Company for nearly five years. It was around that time he felt the call to something more. He entered formation for the priesthood through the Legionaries of Christ, completing a BA in both Philosophy and Theology. He was ordained a priest in Rome 2003. For five years he was the Director of Formation at the Highlands School in Irving. It was during this time that he discerned a true passion for ministering to young people. He ultimately began the process of becoming a diocesan priest in 2010, serving as Parochial Vicar at multiple parishes and currently resides at All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas as Pastoral Administrator.

jason.png

With a fearless passion for Christ, Jason Deuterman has made it his mission to be counter cultural and share God’s love with every person. At the very core of his being, Jason believes that every person’s story matters, most especially when experienced through the lens of the greatest story ever told—the story of Jesus Christ. His raw authenticity coupled with an abiding love for Scripture is both inviting and challenging, as Jason believes deeply that while faith can often seem trendy, it means nothing unless it is transcendent. Jason graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in English, received a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from the University of Dallas, and serves as the director of the Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas. Jason’s zeal for evangelization and discipleship formation is eclipsed only by his passion for his vocation, to be a great husband to his wife of nearly six years, Allison, and a father to his beautiful daughter, Emmalynn Grace, and his son, Bennett Michael.

Profess- Putting on  the Armor of God: Navigating Spiritual Warfare

Demons, Satan, the powers of darkness - they’re real and they are actively at work in our world. The question is do you know how to recognize them and, if need be, go to combat against them? Spiritual warfare is an image that many of us would rather reject. However, since the Bible uses terms of warfare, it’s best that we accept God’s imagery, so that we’re properly prepared for real battle. Come listen, learn and pray as Fr. Edwin Leonard unpacks the turn on the nature of evil in the world today.

Our Speaker

Ordained in 2012 by Cardinal Kevin J. Farrell for the Diocese of Dallas, Fr.Edwin Leonard served his first two years of priesthood as the Parochial Vicar at St. Rita Catholic Church, in July 2014 he was assigned as the Director of Vocations. The past three years and under Fr. Leonard’s direction the diocese accepted a total of 52 new seminarians. His work with the National Evangelization Team (NET) from 2003-2005 helped develop his ability to promote the Gospel with devotion. Fr. Leonard is a graduate of Franciscan University. He uses his strong enthusiasm for crossfit, movies, sporting events, and music festivals to connect with the youth and young adults of the diocese. Fr. Edwin “enjoys sharing his love for the Gospel with the youth and teaching the next great generation of saints."

Profess- 5 Misconceptions About Vatican II

The Second Vatican Council has served as a defining moment in the modern Catholic Church, but it seems to have introduced more chaos among Catholics than unity. Many of us have been confused by how Vatican II is quoted as the source of opposite beliefs and practices. Join us to take a look at what Vatican II was really about, through its context and text, and address some of the major misconceptions about the Council from the past 57 years.

Cooper received his call to ministry while serving as a camp counselor at a Catholic summer camp during his college years. It was at camp where God ignited his love for music and knowledge of ministry and started Cooper on a journey of drawing youth and adults to know and live the Gospel. After 6 summers, he transitioned into diocesan ministry in Baton Rouge where he spent 10 years, 7 as the director of youth ministry. Soon after arriving in Baton Rouge, Cooper's speaking ministry took off and slowly, but surely, schools, parishes, and other dioceses began to invite Cooper to share his stories, music, and life experiences. After 16 years in formal ministry, he started the next phase in his journey answering the call to go "on the road" full-time where he spent 9 years traveling the country speaking and singing at conferences, rallies, retreats, and missions. Cooper is now the Coordinator of Middle School Ministry at St. Ann in Coppell, TX

Profess- Race, Ethnicity & The Kingdom of God

Our world is carefully divided into ways that we label, categorize, and make sense of ourselves and the people around us. These differences can in some cases provide for a rich experience of the presence of God among us, and more and more often, we see these differences result in division and violence. What should we as Catholics profess in the midst of racial differences? Our Church teaches us that the definitive realization of God’s plan will be that “they all be one.” Sr. Josephine we will explore race and our roles as disciples of Jesus to extend and work to bring about the Kingdom and Reign of God’s love in the world.

Our Speaker

Profess- Top 10 Things all Catholics should know, but don't!

Fish have to swim. Birds have to fly. Catholics have to go to Mass on Sundays. Once, it all seemed self-evident, not anymore. In an effort to help clarify what the Catholic Church teaches among the many misconceptions the world puts out there, Fr. Edwin will be presenting on the top 10 beliefs that every Catholic should know but sometimes goes misunderstood. More than simply Catholic trivia, these are important concepts that can help us to better understand and profess our beliefs.

Profess- Authentic Love: How the 5 Love Languages Impact all our Relationships

Authentic Love, How do we love authentically in today’s world. In Matthew 22: 36-40, “Teacher, which commandment is the law is the greatest? He said to him, “You shall love the Lord , your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all you mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. How do we love God Authentically? And How do we love our Neighbors as ourselves? Learn from scripture how we are called to love. What does love look like? Learn what true sacrifice is not just for the Lord but for us. It’s a quick and easy process to learn it just takes practice.
